THE GNOME SHOP

WALDORF INSPIRED GNOMES

THE BIRTH OF A GNOME

Welcome to our little Waldorf Inspired Gnome Shop. You may always have wondered....How are Gnomes born? Well I can't answer for all Gnomes everywhere. But I can tell you how each of ours is born.

Before we do anything I need to explain that all our gnomes are brought into being bearing mind the Steiner Philosophy of only using nature materials. So at no time do any of our gnomes come into contact with plastic or any other yucky stuff.

Firstly we set about finding the right wood to make the knitting needles. Then the knitting needles are made by hand by my husband and son. Finally they are ready to be handed over to me, after being polished with Beeswax.

I then find the softest wool available during the year. Either New Wool or Merino. The Gnome's different parts are then knitted by me. Then we start to sew the parts together, first the legs, and we make little feet. Then the arms and we make little hands. Then the body, face and hat. Each part is stuffed with wool.

Right in the middle of the Gnome, where your heart would be, we place a tiny, hand sewn cotton sachet filled with dried organic lavender. So that every time the Gnome is squeezed or hugged, you'll smell a faint woody, lavender scent.

Finally the hat is sewn on and a tiny metal bell is sewn inside the hat. This jingles lightly whenever the gnome is moved. It helps you to catch your Gnome, if he decides to run off into the garden when he shouldn't.

Now you know the Secret of how our Gnomes are born.

Let me introduce you to our different gnomes, there is a Gnome for everyone in our Home.

These little Gnomes are identical to their bigger family, The Temperament Gnomes, but....they are only 20cm tall, and a bit fatter! They are the Pocket Gnomes. They fit perfectly into a little persons pocket and are great on trips to the mall or for helping out with maths and reading lessons.

They also come in 4 different colours.

Every Gnome that is born is wrapped in thin paper and tied with Raffia before he is posted to you, wherever you are in the world. (We also include a small piece of repair wool, because Gnomes have been known to jump off bicycles and out of tree houses! That way their bandage will not be seen!)
