Share in our Day...
I regularly update our blog where I share what the kids have
done during the week and also any odd thoughts and bizarre opinions I might have. We are
trying to live in as earth friendly a way as possible, so we generally chat about everything from
Homesteading to Vegetarian recipes to ....well the Waldorf Way of doing just about anything.
Visit our Shop...
Our Waldorf-Inspired Shop is where
you can buy gifts for your family and others. We have Knitted Gnomes at the moment, and a range of Rainbow Angels. Pop
in, you may find something special for your loved ones.
Homesteading Recipes...
No matter what time of year, or season it is, it's always fun to bake with your kids!
We have stunning Homesteading Recipes,(some more than 100 years old), in our Bakers Day Book.
Including a recipe for Buttery Shortbread Biscuits, which can be turned into a
seasonal project by cutting out either flowers, leaves or christmas trees, with a cookie cutter and decorating them.
There are also Gift Recipes for Peanut
Butter Cookies and Chunky Chocolate Squares available at the moment.
A Thought from Steiner...
There are only three effective educational methods - fear, ambition and love. We do without the first two.

WALDORF GRADE 4 HOMESCHOOL RESOURCES
As we continue our journey of Waldorf Homeschooling our 2 children we not only find some
awesome resources which we'd like to share with you, but we also end up having to put our
own together. I'll be adding links and downloadable files as we progress.
And if there are any that you find that you think are worth adding then please share them.
There are a lot of Waldorf families, like ours,
that have to homeschool on a shoestring budget, so the more we share with each other
the easier our journey becomes.
I'm going to put a seperate page up for each Grade, and then break that down into the various lesson blocks. This is for Grade 4!
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
You cannot do this lesson block justice until you have read Dr Steiners lectures called Mission of the Folk Souls. It is
imperative to understand the reason behind the teaching.
A JOURNEY THROUGH WALDORF HOMESCHOOLING GRADE 4
We use Melisa Nielsen's A Journey Through Waldorf Homeschooling for Grade 4 to teach Norse Mythology. This comes with a complete
book of all the relevant Norse Myths. They are not watered down versions either.According to Steiners teaching these have to be a complete set not
a kiddies sweet and sunny book with pretty pictures.
You can purchase her Grade 4 curriculum at A Little Garden Flower.
Just click on Grade 4 on the left hand side of her website and you can see the
book I mentioned. Please bear in mind that if you buy this book there is no
need to purchase a second book on Norse Mythology. You'll just need 1 or 2 free
downloads, to get you aquainted with the norse myths.
Which you can download here for free. ;o)
THE NORSE CREATION STORY. THE BEGINNING...
This is a free downloadable PDF that I put together to give a bit of background of the Norsemen,
and then giving you the basics of the Creation story. How there was nothing, just darkness, until the Gods, Odin Ville and Ve
are born and then kill Ymir.
Please be aware that this is not for your child. It is for you to acqauint
yourself with the start of Norse Mythology.
You then take this and put it into a Waldorf lesson for your child. Everything
is there just make it exciting and draw a pic or 2 on the chalkboard! Click on the link below to dowload it.
NORSE MYTHOLOGY. THE BEGINNING....
THE POETIC EDDA
The Prose Edda is a text on Old Norse Poetics, written about 1200 by the Icelandic
poet and politican Snorri Sturlson. The Prose Edda is the first written account, to the best of my knowledge,
of the norse myths. I've used it mainly to gather poems for the chalkboard before I teach the next story. An example of this would be...
Out of the Ice-waves | issued venom-drops,
Waxing until | a giant was;
Thence are our kindred | come all together,--
So it is | they are savage forever."
THE PROSE EDDA
THE NANA GOAT NORSE STORIES
This is a purely fun site, with many poems written for children about the various norse myths and their characters.
I've found a good few, which we can use, as an introduction to the myth or describe an awesome character like Thor.
NANA GOAT STORIES
As we continue our Norse Mythology studies, we'll be adding downloads, and other resources, the next one wll be the Creation story,
how Odin, Ville and Ve create earth. Have fun, Grade 4 is an awesome year!
